An Introduction to PAX – A Polyaxial Locking Plate System

Live Lecture & Dry Lab

This course is designed for the veterinarian with fracture management experience who wishes to learn the guiding principles of using locking plates and to understand the major advantages of the PAX Bone Plating System. The live lecture will review development of implant systems, introduce mechanical concepts, discuss clinical data and methods of application regarding the PAX Bone Plating system, and review case studies. The hands-on dry lab portion of the course will focus on the application of PAX plating to bone models.

What to expect

Live Lecture and Dry Lab

Course Objectives:

• Review the development of locking plate systems
• Discuss the biomechanical principles of locking and non-locking plate systems 
• Case Studies and Best Practices
• Evaluate implant selections on various fractures
• Practice correct use of the locking systems instruments in the dry lab
•  Apply PAX implants on tibia, femur, and humerus bone models

Duncan Midgley, BVMS, CERTSAO, MRCVS

Duncan graduated from Glasgow in 1991 and achieved his certificate in small animal orthopedics in 1996. He became a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons recognized Advanced Veterinary Practitioner in Small Animal Orthopedics in 2014. He is a clinical director at Rutland House Referrals, St Helens where he has practiced orthopedics for over 20 years. He is a consultant for Securos Surgical and has taught courses to postgraduate vets on their behalf for a number of years. He has presented at BSAVA, VetFest, the London Vet show and World Veterinary Orthopedic Congress on their behalf. He is...
